Two days at the HealthAchieve conference trade show with our collaborators at The Wellesley Institute resulted in some worthwhile conversations about embedding equity in health care measurement and management. Carey Levinton, Epidemiologist and Biostatistician on the MAgIC research team and Steini Brown, Chair Public Health Policy at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health were on hand to share information about the process developed to measure equity. Bob Gardner, Director of Healthcare Reform and Public Policy and Steve Barnes, Policy Analyst from Wellesley Institute shared some of their assessment tools and flip sheets on social determinants of health. Once conference delegates got past their surprise over a trade show booth that wasn’t ‘selling’ anything – they welcomed the chance to join in on the discussion and contribute to the goal of raising awareness about embedding equity at all levels of health care governance, strategy, planning, policy and delivery. Conversations well worth continuing.
